The Royal Family is once again at the center of swirling controversy after Queen Camilla’s alleged “secret plan” for Peter Phillips’ upcoming wedding was leaked — and insiders say Princess Anne is furious.
Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne and the eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II, is set to marry businesswoman Harriet Compton later this year in what was supposed to be a modest, low-key affair. But according to royal insiders, Queen Camilla had very different plans — and none of them involved consulting the groom’s mother.
Behind closed doors, Camilla reportedly lobbied for the wedding to be turned into a grand, televised royal spectacle at Windsor Castle, complete with high-profile celebrity guests, a royal procession, and prominent placement for her own grandchildren.
“She wanted to make it a PR moment for the modern monarchy,” a palace source revealed. “More about the Crown than the couple — and certainly not what Peter or Princess Anne envisioned.”
The bombshell leaked earlier this week when a series of internal planning emails were obtained by a tabloid newspaper. The messages show Camilla’s senior aides discussing how to “elevate the wedding’s visibility” and “reposition Peter as a royal figurehead,” despite the fact that Peter has never held a royal title or performed official duties on behalf of the Crown.
What caused the biggest stir, however, was Camilla’s suggestion that her grandchildren — Lola and Eliza — be given roles “equally prominent” to Princess Anne’s grandchildren, who were expected to be flower girls and page boys.
“This is Peter’s wedding, not a stage for Camilla to boost her side of the family,” said one source close to Princess Anne. “She’s absolutely livid. She’s already told the Palace she won’t be sidelined in her own son’s wedding.”
Princess Anne, known for her no-nonsense approach and famously blunt personality, is said to have confronted Camilla directly during a tense lunch at Sandringham last weekend. “It didn’t go well,” an insider said. “Let’s just say the word ‘overstepping’ was used more than once.”
Peter Phillips himself has reportedly sided with his mother, insisting on keeping the ceremony small and personal, just as he and Harriet originally planned. A joint statement released by the couple earlier today appeared to address the drama without naming names:
“We are grateful for the love and support we’ve received, and we look forward to celebrating our marriage in a way that reflects who we are as a couple — quietly and meaningfully, surrounded by family and close friends.”
As tensions simmer behind palace walls, royal watchers say this incident could signal deeper rifts between Camilla and Princess Anne — two of the most influential women in the Firm.
