For the first time in 20 years, the festive TV schedules will be completely free of Daleks,
Cybermen, Time Lords, and the TARDIS. Every year since Dr Who returned to screens in 2005 the BBC has broadcast a festive special episode of the programme on Christmas Day or around New Year - sometimes both.
But this year The Doctor is absent from our screens - and it'll be some time before we see them again. When we last saw The Doctor, back in May, Ncuti Gatwa's iteration of the Time Lord had unexpectedly regenerated into a new incarnation played by Billie Piper.
In previous years fans would only have had to wait until the festive season to learn what happened next, with the first-ever Christmas special in 2005 memorably featuring David Tennant's first full appearance as The Doctor.
