Prince Edward—Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest son—has finally broken his silence on the late Princess Diana, and what he had to say is anything but flattering.
For decades, Edward remained one of the more reserved and less controversial members of the royal family, often avoiding public commentary on the most turbulent chapters of royal history. But in a newly leaked excerpt from an upcoming biography, Edward reportedly offers an unfiltered account of Princess Diana’s time in the royal family—and it paints a far less romantic picture than many expected.
According to the biography, titled “The Silent Prince: Edward’s Untold Story”, the Duke of Edinburgh candidly reflects on Diana’s behavior during her marriage to Prince Charles and her relationship with the rest of the royal family. While Edward acknowledges her public charisma and humanitarian work, he also describes her as "deeply unpredictable behind palace walls" and claims she “created chaos in spaces where calm was needed.”
“She was the people's princess, yes,” Edward allegedly said in a private conversation included in the book. “But inside the family, it often felt like we were navigating a storm she kept stirring. Her pain was real—but so was the destruction it left behind.”
The excerpt goes on to suggest that Diana's confrontations with royal staff and family members were far more intense than the public ever knew. Edward reportedly criticized her for “weaponizing the media” against the royal household, referring to her famous interviews and press leaks that contributed to the breakdown of her marriage to Charles.
“It was as though she never wanted resolution—only attention,” Edward is quoted as saying. “The institution isn’t perfect, but airing every grievance to the press was never the answer.”
Unsurprisingly, the comments—though unconfirmed by Buckingham Palace—have sparked outrage among Diana’s supporters and royal fans online. Social media users have accused Edward of tarnishing Diana’s legacy, with many calling the remarks “cold” and “ill-timed,” especially as public opinion continues to favor Diana’s narrative of royal mistreatment.
